The Voice of Inner Guidance

Actor Chris Pratt, star of Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World, shared an inspiring post on his Instagram account:

Fifteen years ago I felt the same passion I feel today, but I had very little opportunity. I had to hustle hard and go hungry. I had to eat sardines and figure out how to get gas money. And I never had a plan B. I never stopped believing. Ever. Don’t give up. Apply constant pressure for as long as it takes. It will break before you do. Go get it.3

Inner guidance is always present. At first it may not seem so, but it is there. We carry a lot of competing voices in our heads, such as the voices of our family and our culture and, of course, the inner critic. It can be hard to hear the voice of inner guidance amid so much noise. Learning to single it out from the chatter is a process of discovery. Although at first it may seem quiet to you, as soon as you stop inviting the critics to the inner room of your mind, you’ll be able to hear it loud and clear. Listen for it. You’ll know it when you’ve heard it, because it feels calm, loving, and grounded. If you deliberately build a strong, heartfelt relationship with the voice of your inner guidance, you’ll discover the belief you need to make it through adversity until you attain your goals. No obstacle will hold you back.

Even if you’re lucky enough to be surrounded by people who are incredibly optimistic about your potential, belief in your success must start with you and your connection to your inner voice of guidance. Several years ago I had a wonderful mentor in Los Angeles who taught me much about success and balancing the personal and the professional for a fulfilling life. Witty, practical, and brilliant, she simplified many things for me that I’d long found difficult to understand. I diligently implemented her advice, and she helped me to quintuple my income in a single year. I am incredibly grateful to have found her, and to this day I believe she was an angel sent to guide me. Even so, I knew I had to trust the voice of my inner guidance more than hers when the two were at odds.

After several months of speaking to my mentor almost daily, a very strong instinct told me that I needed to relocate to Miami. The feeling got so intense that I felt my heart was going to burst out of my chest, and the sensation just wouldn’t go away. Within days of being guided to make this change, I moved with my husband and son to the Sunshine State. My mentor insisted that I was making a big mistake and then stopped talking to me because I was taking an action with which she disagreed. I was devastated, as I valued her opinion greatly. Despite losing her approval, I knew I had to trust my inner guidance.
